Inner reflections in Iambic septameter and a-a-b-b rhyme.
Many things escape me now I knew of as a child.
It seems the smarter I become the more I am beguiled.
By worldly rank, you'd think me wise, yet I no longer see
The wonder in the world has now become a mystery.

I used to see the splendor in the flying of a bird
The harmony of nature's song was music I once heard.
Through lessons hard, I've taught myself, just how to be a man
Prosperity my victory as through this race I ran.

And I've done well as alpha male, and I've sown many seed
And passed to them born of my stem, what's needed to succeed.
And now I see with certainty that life is always just
And realize there is a prize for love or merely lust.

So I'm no longer youthful, no longer meek and mild
And many things escape me, I knew of as a child.
Advice that I would share now, to those who've just begun
Just enjoy the journey, and remember, walk don't run.
