A free-verse poem about a romantic encounter by the bay.
The city lights
sparkled across the bay,
with the moon
a giant, white orb,
hovering on the gentle waves--
you were
standing by the wharf--
a well-lighted space
on a darkened shore.
I saw you
at a distance,
and floundered through a
plethora of
feelings and doubts,
hope
and aspirations of a fool,
but still you stood
waiting
for me...
dark hair framing
a curious face,
eyes shimmering
from starlight--
with closed eyes
you are all I see,
all I need
all I want
what I want
is in my arms--
warmth reenters my bones
as hands glide over hips--
the small of your back
holding you close--
you smile, then
our lips meet--
warm--
I must have lost my breath;
the stars blur
into chalky streaks on velvet,
And
I
Can't
Breathe
