Silver Bells

I wanted to give you
a beautiful present
this holiday season.

I thought I might wrap
a snowy-capped mountain
in blue paper
                                        for you.

The I'd take a
hot air balloon ride to Egypt
and have lunch
                                        with you.

Steak and eggs
with homemade biscuits and
vintage sherry from Spain
                                        for you.

Fly back on the SST
and land in Central park
to listen to the Philharmonic
                                        with you.

Then I remembered I'm alone
so I thought I'd go to church
and cry
                                        about you.
