A lyric I wrote after a five mile walk.
A lyric writing exercise

Train

I took a trip on an invisible train
The sky above was red
Downline, and the windows were washed with rain
The conductor was dead, he's inside my head
I don't feel any pain
Does this new road have to end?

chorus
This train I ride, it has no track
I won't be coming back
It flows one way, day after day
Is there any other way?
It flows one way, day after day
Will I have another say?

Johnny Jake doesn't have to fake
He knows how to fly, no lie
We met before on the desert floor beside a purple lake
The words he said, they rattle in my head
I feel a little pain
I can't see round the bend

chorus

This trip I'm on has no compass at all
Floating above the ground
I don't know where I go, I just can't stand to fall
Johnny Jake fled, conductor still dead
Now I feel the rain
Here my life to spend

chorus

The sun it rises, it always surprises
I do believe I've found
Love is a greed like a friend in need
I'm waking from some spell
Where do we go, running from Hell
Will this trip ever end?

chorus

Will this trip ever end
