A lost couple drives along a desolate road.
George

We are on a two-lane dirt road, the sun is sinking, and we are lost.

“George,” I say, “all you had to do was stop at that last gas station, but no. You drove right past.”

He just gave me that look.

Our GPS is not working, our cell phones have no signal, and we are almost out of gas.

“George!” I say, “Are you listening to me?”

He just gave me that look again.

There is a DO NOT ENTER sign on the right. He is stopping, getting ready to turn around. Thank goodness.

“I just pray that the gas station is still open,” I say.

He inches forward.

“George, what are you doing? That sign is there for a reason.”

He picks up speed to about 15 miles an hour.

There are warning signs on either side of the road.

WARNING IF YOU CAN READ THIS, YOU ARE IN RANGE.

“George!”

NO TRESPASSING UNLESS YOU CAN RUN 2700 FEET PER SECOND.

“George!”

IS THERE LIFE AFTER DEATH? TRESPASS HERE AND FIND OUT.

“George!”

IF YOU ARE FOUND HERE TONIGHT, YOU WILL BE FOUND HERE TOMORROW.

“GEORGE!”

The next sign reads DEAD END.

We finally turn around, but only because George ran out of road.

Now we’re back on the main road and have it all to ourselves. The gas station is on the left. George is pulling in.

Thank you, Lord.

The station is closed!

“George! Now, what do we do?”

He stops at the lone pump. The sign reads NO FUEL.

George pulls over to the NO PARKING SIGN.

I guess we’re here for the night.
