A poem about an experience that happened to me recently.
A Silent Witness

I sit alone, and hear them talk,
I hear the nonsense that they spout,
I hear them speak of worthless things,
Of brand new clothes, and shiney rings,
But now and then, a theme comes up,
That makes me listen, if not speak out,

They talked today of their religion,
This is a topic I hear not often,
They say that God is just a sham,
They don't believe that He made man,
"Man created God" they say,
I cannot think of a life so gray,
They tell each other how church is fake,
They truly believe in these stories they make,

I know that I should take a stand,
I know that I should lend a hand,
I should tell of our God above,
I should tell of the limitless love,
I should reveal that they aren't alone,
I should tell of my heavenly home,
I should invite them to come with me,
His endless wonders also to see,

But I turn away and think in my head,
"Someone else, surely, will do it instead,"
"I worship God, I've done my part,"
But I know that I lied, deep in my heart.
