Written on impulse It's not poetry cos I don't do poetry so I don't know what it is
This morning I lay abed, sad, looking at the bedroom door
.
In it is cut a cat door. Just a cat-sized opening really, with a little curtain over it.

Three doors in the house have these holes. Cutting them not the easiest of tasks.

'How sad,' I thought, there's "nobody" to use them any more.

In four score and five years I've lived on three continents. We had cats on all three.

We've had cats who meowed in English, Malay, Yorkshire and French.

Persil, Onion, Gherkin, Morticia, Fred, Bunny, Jean Guy, Horatio,

Meski, Brandy, Eddie, Harry, Hermione and no doubt a few others.

All of them had their own story. Each gave us joy and then, heartache with their passing.

Until Meski and Brandy I'd not known that Tonkinese cats existed.

Because we don't want to face the pain that comes with a feline death again.

We are now catless.

Will those who buy this house, when we join the cats, keep those doors?

A cat or two would be cheaper than three doors
.
I'm sad and so I should be. I miss them all.
