Catalina and Mira go on a little heist for Avery.
“Remind me why we can’t just break the door down?” asked Catalina.

“Avery asked us to do this discreetly if possible. I sense traps and triggers lining the inside of this room. If we set off an alarm, our faces will be all over the news of this planet.” replied Mira, trying to figure out the security system to the building.

“Ugh. Can’t you just cut the power to the entire place and be done with it?”

“Backup generators are present in the basement. We wouldn’t have enough time to get in and out before everything re-engages.” said Mira, finally piecing everything together. “Please stand by. I will have the system down in a moment.”

A whirring came up behind them as a chopper floated up, spotlights focused down onto the two with intensity. It turned its side to them, soldiers with guns shouting to put their hands up. Catalina was done waiting by this point. They slapped the air in front of them and the chopper began to spin like something had hit its tail. The humans on board were quick to try and stabilize it and much to the credit of this world’s future technology, they managed to stop themselves from falling. The chopper once again turned its side toward them, only this time they tried to pull the trigger. Bullets bounced off Catalina and Mira like mosquito bites, annoying them more than anything. One hit Catalina in the eye, making them have to blink a little in frustration.

“So much for stealth. Mira, lets get this over with.”

“We tried our best, but it seems Avery underestimated the people.” said Mira, standing up and breaking all the glass of the roof with a single stomp of her foot.

This triggered the alarm as shards fell on the item they were supposed to collect, bouncing off the shield surrounding it. Mira floated down while the chopper called for backup, and soon enough the shield shut down as she tripped the electricity. The orb was green and swirling, an artefact as these people called it. One that Avery wanted his hands on to stop a disaster from occurring in this timeline. As Mira flew back up to meet Catalina, they were lighting a smoke with a fire from their thumb tip. The chopper was now circling the building, seemingly giving up with the shooting. So they figured out that firearms don’t work. At least, Mira thought they did at first. Catalina suddenly stumbled back, a giant bullet pinging to the ground while their forehead smoked.

“Damnit! Give me one good reason not to wipe them from existence.”

“Your father.”

Catalina tried to open their mouth to argue, but thought better of it. They knew that Avery wouldn’t be happy with unnecessary casualties. They clicked their tongue with a frown and looked at the orb.

“We got what we came for. Lets get the hell out of here before I actually have to kill somebody.” said Catalina.

“Roger that.” said Mira, connecting to the Aegis network via the quantum link. “The gateway will open in fifteen seconds. We should move away from the city.”

“Way ahead of you.” said Catalina, summoning their board. They kicked off from the building and went soaring through the air.

Both Mira and Catalina then felt an overwhelming presence of power over them as the gateway began to open. They burst into golden flames as they flew further from the city centre, becoming streaming comets of energy darting over the city. Mira began counting down.

“Five... four... three...” reality itself began to quake. They went faster and faster, Catalina smiling all the way. This was the part they enjoyed the most.

“Two... One...” on the final count, the two comets merged, becoming a single bolt of pure golden energy that was sucked through the tiniest cracks in time and space.
