A book to house all my Poetic Explorations |
Taming Inner Demons These inner demons I have are friends as well as foes. Perhaps I should have listened to their whispers earlier, who knows. In shadows deep, their voices coil and wind, A twisted chorus echoing in my mind. They paint the world with hues of doubt and fear, Their subtle poisons drip into my ear. One demon whispers, "Turn your back and hide, The world's a stage where only fools confide." Another hisses, "Worth is but a dream, Your best is naught, a weak and fading gleam." Fear, with icy fingers, grips my soul, Doubt, a serpent, takes its heavy toll. Yet in their darkness, flickers strange and bright, A spark defiant, yearning for the light. The demon's words, once truth I did embrace, Now twisted weapons in this shadowed space. "Your flaws," one taunts, "are chains forever bound." Another sneers, "Perfection can't be found." But from the corner where my courage dwells, A quiet voice against the darkness swells. "Your flaws are stars," it whispers soft and low, "They chart a path where only you may go." The demons rage and twist with bitter stings, But strength unfurls, borne on newfound wings. Their whispers meant to shatter and ensnare Now fuel a fire burning bright and rare. I will not cower, will not turn away, Each demon's taunt will pave a stronger way. Their words ignite the battle for my soul, But in this fight, I shall emerge made whole. These inner demons, twisted to deceive, I see their game, the lies they seek to weave. Perhaps I should have listened long ago, But wisdom blooms where doubts were once to grow. No friend or foe can own this heart of mine, The choice is mine, where light and darkness twine. And from the ash where demons sought to reign, A warrior rises, breaking every chain.
