Candlelight Soul
My life is a candle
My soul is the flame.
Some days it's barely a spark
Flickering against shades of grey.
Other days
Smouldering ashes rekindle
Spontaneous outbursts of wildfire,
Catching combustible spirits
Spreading destruction,
Threatening to melt my candle
Into a shapeless blob of wax.
Sometimes my wax is tainted,
The flame burns a peculiar color,
Filling my room with unhealthy light
That makes darkness appear more inviting.
My candle stands strong
Against hurricane forces
Yet droops in the heat
Of a midsummer's day.
Another soul's ice hardens it till the slightest touch cracks—
Who knew one's wellbeing was so hard to maintain?
I must purify my wax
Lock my candle in a lantern
Wash those glass shields
Keep the flame burning bright and clean
To share a warm light with others,
Or at least shed clarity on
A spot ahead in my path.
