I was born to brood, wear a lot of black and eventually become__ When invited by such a prompt my mind immediately leaps to dozens of diverse reactions. The simple scientific response is that we are all born to procreate, thus contributing to the survival of Homo Sapiens. Everything beyond that falls into the categories of Art or Philosophy or both. Would it be truthful to say I was born to swim, dance, write software, write literature, run marathons, teach, play piano, commit various criminal acts, commit various immoral acts, learn. read, travel, procreate, be happy, be depressed, long for death, cook, clean, nurse babies, love, hate, experience joy, engender fear, help strangers, donate to worthy causes,save lives, etc, etc, etc? I’ve done all those things and countless others, but are any of them things I was born to do? Hardly. |
