'ello, 'ello, 'ello  I intend for this entry to be short coz I'm running behind...yadda, yadda, yad I'm looking forward to writing something extra special for Beyond the Cloud9  's fantasy story date. She's a Texan don'tcha know. Yup and damn proud of it too. (Sorry Sherri) This should be fun. I've never been to Texas. Gotta remember to pack some sun block, cowboy boots and fuzzy handcuffs. Oops. You best ignore that last bit.I've recently stumbled upon this fascinating website... http://www.roundtheworldbybike.com/default.asp This website has literally captured my imagination and enthralled me completely. No! It has nothing to do with porno animal sex. (Eeeeeeeew)  It's a site about one Alastair Humphreys (or Al...he's not sure which he prefers) quest to bicycle around the world to help raise money for ‘Hope and Homes for Children’ charity. He's ridden from his front door in England, through Europe, the Middle East, the entire length of Africa, South and North America. He's now in Japan. It's taken him over three years so far. I love how he writes, his sense of humour and his joy for living. Apparently he'd love to get email (or homemade mini CDs of music you'd think he'd enjoy listening to as he treks across China and Asia). I've spent hours reading his accounts and experiences. People like this REALLY inspire me. I love to travel but I doubt I'd have the guts to ride across an African desert or up the Andes ALONE. I find part of me REALLY yearns for this kind of adventure. (I'd want to share it with someone though) Maybe this is why I LOVE The Amazing Race so much. I've been to 18 or so countries but that's a mere handful compared to what this guy has been to...and he got there under his OWN power! Not flown or driven. (He does have to travel by boat sometimes. You can't expect him to bike from Africa to South American) My guys and I have done a bit of biking but nothing to compare with Al Humphreys' 90 miles a day or so he averages. We do half that and certainly feel it later, plus we're not at it day in and day out. I understand a guy and his two sons canoed from Canada to South America also. I love canoeing (we'll spend up to 14 hours at a time paddling up rivers or around lakes) but we've never attempted any really long distance quests. We were seriously thinking about biking across our province two years ago. Even drove the entire route several times taking measurements and making plans like where to camp and stuff. Life's too short to put things off. I hate regrets.
