A blog on the adventures my son's dog is taking me on while he is away for a month.

Can dogs be bi-polar?
Okay, we have a little catching up to do here.

July 3rd -- Our walk was a DISASTER! My only hope that something positive came out of it, is if some freaky neighbor was secretly videoing it and it goes viral and i can sue him for well, I don't know, something. Betty practically pulled my arm off before we even got down the driveway - I guess i should have seen this as a sign. The thing that perturbs me the most, is i was so prepared for this walk. I even thought to bring along some water for her. I was pumped. Sadly, that attitude didn't last long.

This was Betty's plan: Bark, run, jump, bark, run, jump.

Okay, to clarify - I don't run. At all -- not even a jog. I had both my knees replaced about 3 years ago - doc said don't run - I took it as gospel.

then we walk by a house we haven't before - apparently betty does not like rotweillers and they don't like her. It literally took me 5 minutes to move her 20 feet -- while I'm prayng not to land face first on the street or lose the grip of the jerking, pulsating leash. I know if she gets out of my grasp there is no way i can catch her, and i can't imagine telling Reese if that happened.

Well, I finally get her past the Barking Bullies. I realize I'm thirsty, so I figure she must be with all that jumping and twisting. So, i try to give her a drink - she's panting, mind you -- so i tip the water bottle to give her a drink - She looks at me like, "I'm a dog; we don't drink out of bottles," and starts to trot again.

When we at last get home - she looks at me with her big eyes as if she really thinks she deserves a treat. Considering, my left arm feels like it is now several inches longer than my right one (like that 1970's toy, Stretch Armstrong), i assure her she is not getting a treat.

We don't talk much the rest of the day.

But, I still relent and let her sleep with me. sigh.

July 4th -- Betty is distraught when i won't take her walking. I would feel slightly guilty if my arm wasn't sore and i hadn't had nightmares about her escaping. Being the 4th, I'm not home a lot - it is a holiday. This causes her more displeasure. When I get home from watching the fireworks, Betty jumps on me, and then quickly jumps down as if she had forgotten for a moment she was mad at me and intended to give me the silent treatment. Yep, Betty, that's going to kill me.

July 5th - i take Betty for a walk (not by the Barking Bullies - I'm no dummy) and she was an angel. She went slowly, looking back at me often to make sure I was still breathing at a rate that didn't indicate a medical emergency, and even got out of the way of oncoming cars. It was so pleasant. Granted, I didn't enjoy it entirely, because i was sure at any minute the Spaz Betty would be back to yank a limb of my body off, but it never happened. We returned home, she got her treat, and later took a nap together. Reese called and talked to her, and Betty just rested her head on the phone. 2 more weeks, Girl - we can make it.

Now I have to say, Betty has been bragging quite a bit lately - getting a little too big for her doggie britches, if you will. See, July 3rd, we conducted an experiment. We posted her blog, and about the same time, I posted from my blog. She got over twice as many views as I did. I'm not sure if this says something about my lack of appeal, or the fact that most people would rather hang out with a dog, than other humans. At any rate, she continues to remind me that she is much, much more popular than I am. It's strange how easily I've accepted this fact.
