The 30 DBC prompt for Monday February 13 is "Dictionary.com's Word of the Day for Sunday was "calliopean", meaning "piercingly loud; resembling a calliope in sound". Tell us about a time when you've experienced what you might consider to be the worst loud sound you can imagine, and how did you react to it"

The worst loud sound I ever heard is one that I denied for years and have only recently come to terms with. Thus I don't mind discussing it here though I won't say who the parties involved were to protect their identity. When I was quite young, about 13-14 years old, I was in a house with a man who had had a psychotic break with reality. To make matters worse he was intoxicated. None of us were aware that anything was wrong until he took a 30.06 out of the gun cabinet and began waving it around. He knew that I was known to have done a stupid little jig in school and he pointed the 30.06 at my feet, said "Dance," and began firing it. A 30.06 that is pointed away from you outside makes an incredibly loud boom. Inside a house and pointed at you.... The noise was horrendous and attributed to my Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

For those who don't know a 30.06 is the civilian equivalent of a WWII M-1 Carbine.
