Resolution Questions
Thursday, December 28, 2017

“The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective.”
G.K. Chesterton, A Chesterton calendar

The "Blogging Circle of Friends Open in new Window. prompt for DAY 1869
Do you make resolutions? If you do how long are you successful? If you don't why not?

Do I make resolutions? Yes. I usually make my resolutions at Naw-Ruz, which is when I celebrate a New Year. However, this year I'm returning to something I did a few years ago. Used to begin the Gregorian year with a list of goals, worked on them, and then reevaluated those goals a week or so before Naw-Ruz. At that point, I either decide to toss some out because they are no longer valid or continue working on all of them. This year I have a list of eighteen goals I want to complete between Naw-Ruz 2018 and Naw-Ruz 2019, when I reevaluate them in March I will decide which ones are feasible.

How long am I successful at keeping them? Sometimes I am successful at keeping most of them, and sometimes I fail at keeping any of them. I suspect my biggest problem is keeping tack of my successes and reevaluating at specific intervals. I have come to the conclusion that I need to review and reevaluate them every three or four months. This way I can keep a closer eye on my accomplishments, while tossing out those that I have achieved. I haven't decided if I should replace goals I've achieved with other goals or what. Right now I think the only time I will toss a goal and replace it is at Naw-Ruz.

Another thing I need to do is to pick one or more goals (resolutions) to focus on each week. I will just note what I have accomplished on those items each day. That way I can look at them each evening to determine what I need to do to accomplish specific items.
