a broken unsonnet
I broke a sonnet today,
cracked it, let the metaphor
spill out, and fried it
with garlic and butter.
My words were bitter,
but I ate them
anyway, chewed them over
and again until I almost knew
what I tasted, and
who needed them,
and why they hurt, and how
to make them better,
Finally, chewed and broken,
I vomited them into the world.
