Idol Worship

Write about one (or more) of your creative idols. Who do you look up to? Whose work are you most inspired by? Why?


Well, let me see. I don't have 'idols' per se. I have authors I admire. But I don't worship at their thrones.

I admire Lee Child - his Jack Reacher character is fun. He always has amusing adventures, and the way the character is fleshed out makes you believe that this could be a real person. I know Tom Cruise has portrayed Jack Reacher in the movies, but somehow he just doesn't fit the part. I know, big box office needs a star. But the Jack Reacher in the books is huge physically. Not huge star quality.

Another author I admire is C.J.Box. Partially because he is sort of local - from Wyoming. His Joe Pickett character is believable, decent, and likable. The mysteries are out of the ordinary and involve the game warden, Joe Pickett, and nature in some way. Since I am a nature lover, I enjoy reading about characters interacting with nature as a character in a novel.

There are so many authors here on Writing.com. I hesitate to name those I truly admire. But you can look at my fan list. And more join every day.

So anyone who can take a few words and make an enjoyable story or poem or essay is someone worthy of my admiration. Bravo!
