Media Bias? 10.juli.2021 How do you feel about the integrity of the news? Can we believe what we read/see? How much bias is there? from "JAFBG" . Random, but linked, thoughts: I lived in a city where Channel 7 broadcast a house fire most every night. Folks quickly formed opinions about that part of town. Since the area was poorer and blacker... no need to guess what the reactions were. My city died in the flames of racism. Now every headline is another shooting... but only certain types of shootings in certain places are headlined. Again... poorer and not-so-white. White-on-white crime may be news but it doesn't seem to scare White folks. When Covid hit California bad they talked numbers but CA is a huge state. North and South Dakota had far worse per capita numbers... not as big a stink. Because.... it hit the Native people and Old Folks worse than nice church-going middle-class Whites. Plus, California is hated as much or more than China. When India passes the USA in covid numbers everyone will point at India as if it's somehow worse than here, but India has 3 times the population. It's also much poorer and not-so-white. The Media reports may even be true but Americans don't think critically and media follows that ignorance and passes on the opportunity to educate. Like how every politician, preacher and nincompoop screaming "Muh Freedom" became as important as what epidemiologists were advising. When a leader doesn't lead and would rather spread lies and conspiracies and then disappear for two months because his ego is more important than the health of the nation... but still hog the Media headlines... We got a problem. Met someone who just got back from China last night. I warned her about the animosity towards Asians here in Montana. China has had 92k cases. Montana 144k. China has 1,000 times the population. Missoula leads the state with 60% vaccinated. We have counties with less than 25%. But... lets blame the Chinese. There was a mobile van for vaxxes at market. Less than 10 were jabbed. Whatever bias exists in media reporting one need look no further than the culture that consumes it like candy. Bias sells. Immediacy sells. It's why CNN is so popular... and often wrong. And people prefer their echo chambers of church and circle of friends. FOX is White-Peoples-Media. I rest my case.
