Poor Soil

owl for signature useby Judith D. (Apondia)

My property according to a township authority has low topsoil. The property has been farmed for 100 years or so. It sits on a clay basis. So, I researched other plants besides Lavendar, that help poor topsoil. Lavendar is a good cash crop as well as being one of the plants that recondition poor soil.

The plant I wrote about is growing wild everywhere in my yard. After my research I'm assuming the soil needs calcium.

WEEDS

I am a weed,
the daisy family
claims my seed

I came from Europe,
spread across North America,
just a weed, cheer up.

In the morning I open,
In the evening I close.
Daily life after I ripen.

Cows on me chew,
Horses eat me,
Lots of fowl do too.

My head is a floret.
A blow ball carries my seed.
Don't forget.

My greens are filled with vitamin A,
and vitamin C,
and vitamin K.

evolving 30 million years ago,
used in Chinese medicines,
just the thought makes me glow.

My roots grow down deep,
carry calcium to the topsoil,
fertilizing topsoil cheap.

I make wine,
I make tea,
as a food I'm considered fine.

I'm a dandelion,
just a weed,
yet also divine.
