scattered thoughts
“It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.” – Leonardo Da Vinci
As I happen to my life,
so much of it has been beyond control.
I wouldn't have chosen so much of it
but now that it has, I'm shaped by it.
A castle on the beach
is built with the idea
that it will die with the tide—does
that make it wrong to build it?
We are not given to know
when and where the rain will fall, only
how we will dance in its puddles, and
who will we draw out with us
to marvel at the shape of water
against the world, and to wonder
and ponder and consider and study
all the whys to know what we will write
to bring that rainfall to life
for future dancers.
