Get those binoculars!

A tragic tale might have been averted,
If only for a couple of things:
Slowing down in an iceberg soup,
And having those darn binoculars.

Going too fast and the sea too calm,
They never really had a chance.
Too many lives came to naught;
For not having those darn binoculars.

Going back in time, I could only wish;
Not sure it would do any good.
For the "experts" would press on with
their speed, and having no binoculars.
