Faithful friends - Take up your Cross

Proverbs 27:6-7

6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
7 The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.

Verse 6 reminds us that of all of the things that a friend does, being able to "step up" and tell the truth - even if it hurts - is a hallmark of that friendship. The truth may hurt in the short run, but in the long run, there will be healing.

All the "atta boys" or "atta girls" from so-called friends doesn't even measure up to the truth a friend tells you. I'd rather have some hurtful truth over a "good job" from someone who doesn't care about me.

Verse 7 is the opposite, I believe. If you have no trials or temptations, you can only have a small idea of being grateful. If you have lost a lot, then you can know what it is to be grateful.
