Black Cats

The black cat is the subject of much calumny,
the supposed bringer of bad luck,
a symbol of dark spirituality
to avoid, lest with evil you’re struck.
But a feline is smarter than that,
with spirits it has no truck.
The invisible prey of the cat,
is in corners and crevices tucked,
haunting your neat little house
with cobwebs or squeaks of a rat.
If you’d scream at the sight of a mouse
then you’d be lucky to have a cat.
