What does Psalms 23 mean when it says, "The Lord is my Shepherd."?

Sheep are notorious for getting themselves into trouble. The shepherd is one who cares for the sheep. Making sure they have enough to eat, drink, and getting rid of pests. Getting them out of deep holes that they can't get out of, and fighting off enemies, such as poachers who would steal and other animals that want a mutton snack.

This is what our Shepherd does for us...He watches over us, helping us (sometimes when we don't even know). He protects us, and sometimes has to bring us back to the fold when we wander too far.
