A collection of my autobiographical poems |
We vowed to love each other, No matter what trials came our way. Richer, poorer, better or worse, And now it’s ten years since that day. Our friends say that we’re lucky, Lucky that our love is still so strong, Lucky that our relationship has lasted, Lucky that nothing has gone wrong. When you had your third motorbike crash And I was so scared that I would lose you, I didn’t rant and rave or forbid it, We compromised and talked it through. We definitely went through ‘poorer’ With the strictest budget for a while, But we didn’t pass blame or argue, We learned to lean on each other and smile. We’ve been in sickness and in health, Had stress from work and PMS, But we gave each other space and rest, And understood its temporariness. You’ve worked weekends and I’ve worked late, We’ve even had business overseas… But we trust we’ll never cheat on each other, Even though we’ve had opportunities. I believe it’s communication, A big dose of trust and love as well, That has seen our ten years of marriage Bring us closer together through heaven and hell. Our friends say that we’re lucky, But I’m feeling quite judgmental. Relationships take effort and work, not luck, Happiness is not accidental. Free verse with an ABCB rhyme scheme.
