Letter From the Editor Is it too early to begin celebrating spring? It is only the first full week in March, and spring does not officially begin until March 20 at 21:25 UTC. That is about 5:25 p.m. Writing.com Time. I have already begun preparing for spring and Naw-Ruz, the new Baha'i year, which will begin at sunset on March 20. The nineteen days from sunset on March 1 to sunset on March 20 is the Fast. At this time, Baha'is across the planet fast from sunup to sundown. For those who can fast, this means getting up before dawn to eat breakfast and waiting until after sunset to eat again. Since I am over 70 years old, I am no longer required to fast. This does not mean I am free of the other fasting obligations, such as saying the prayers revealed by Baha'u'llah for the Fast. Each year during this time, I sacrifice something. One year I sacrificed coffee for nineteen days. Another year, I sacrificed playing computer games and, after nineteen days, did not go back to those games on a daily basis. I no longer play computer games at any time. This year I am attempting to give up another bad habit that distracts me from writing. However, I am continuing to work on it by saying prayers, reading, writing, and meditating on the sacred verses. I hope to have the bad habit replaced by a good habit by sunset on March 20.
