The Elephant and I
The elephant never stands before the mirror
regretting every line and wrinkle,
nor does he fret over the bags and sags,
he ignores the forehead crinkles

(his skin is not worn out
it’s just lived in).

The elephant never stays home
bemoaning his lack of elegance.
His gait is lumbering but steady,
his path one of experience

(no one stands in his way
for long).

These days the elephant and I
have a lot in common.
We may look dull but beware,
we know more than we’ve forgotten
