BCoF - March 30th - Justice is in eyes of Beholder
“People don't always get what they deserve in this world.” - Lemony Snickett

“Justice, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. Some see an innocent victim. Others will see evil incarnate getting exactly what's deserved.”― Emily Thorne

Definition of Justice: Noun. the quality of being just; righteousness, equitableness, or moral rightness: to uphold the justice of a cause. rightfulness or lawfulness, as of a claim or title; justness of ground or reason: to complain with justice.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/justice defines it as:

1: the maintenance or administration of what is just especially by the impartial adjustment of conflicting claims or the assignment of merited rewards or punishments
as in:meting out justice or social justice

and

2: the quality of being just, impartial, or fair
questioned the justice of their decision

Now that we have a small idea of justice's definitions - now comes the quagmire - on whose definition are we relying? Man's? God's? Society's?

One man's justice is another man's vengeance. Even the Bible has it's own opinion of this.

“Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute,” (Psalm 82:3). “Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, and please the widow's cause,” (Isaiah 1:17).

One of the most common names for God is Elohim, derived from an ancient word for “judge.” Elohim is the God of justice.

Biblical references to the word “justice” mean “to make right.” Justice is, first and foremost, a relational term — people living in right relationship with God, one another, and the natural creation.

To deliver justice, we must decide on whose justice we are tendering. And we must also decide if the justice meted out is the correct one, or if it is just because we "can" mete it out.

A divisive topic, indeed.
