365 Days of Blessing _ April 1, 2023

Dear God,

The generation in which You Son Jesus, the Savior, is sent to, is characterized a number of ways. In an astounding characterization, Jesus explains that there a generation “contrary” to all things pure and true. It is like their level of wisdom is faulty in its contradictions.

The definitions within Jesus' generation are set by tradition, wealth and privilege. The traditionalists are the religious authorities, the wealthy are unseen and deft at keeping their distance from the poor and outcast, the privileged are in places of power and authority – government, legal systems and “friends of the Court” and “Mood changers.” All people in the time of Jesus went out to observe John the Baptist, but as a curiosity, not a “preparer of the way of God.” Messages of repentance are songs that are both death and life.

If those who have paid the price to enter into the Kingdom of God, find His love and generous deliverance from sin and death a life altering gift, it is also true that those who don’t pay the price are skeptical of what they witness. There is no pleasing the self possessed traditionalist, wealthy or privileged. They desire to appear to be self contained, unaffected and moved by what God is doing in the land. The moment of true wisdom is set. Will this be the time to justify the trials of our children?

Luke 7:31-35

To what then shall I compare the people of this generation, and what are they like?

They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, --- “We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; We sang a dirge, and you did not weep.”

For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say He has a demon.

The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, “look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!

Yet wisdom is justified by all her children.

O Lord, help me as I Your true wisdom. Consecrate my days and time to walk upright in this day and in the light of Your goodness and love. Thank You. Amen.
