Year 11 English Advanced:
Thank you for your stories,
submitted by all but two!

Some of you were under
& a few of you went over
but most of you managed
to observe the word limit!

I read stories of anxiety
& trauma, stories of art
& destruction, stories
of prison, palaces, punks -

I found similes superb
& some hackneyed ones
too; a pick-&-mix bag
of metaphors; why
so many rhetorical questions?

Most of you have grasped
apostrophe & comma,
much of your syntax is sound.
Some of you need to see
to your mechanics.

Some of you get A,
most of you get B
a few of you are Cs
& two of you are Ds.
Nobody's story got E!

So praise to you, my students
for your stories. Let me say
that it's a privilege,
I'm sincere, to meet you
through assignment
on the page.
