Prompt: It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife." Jane Austen Was things more difficult back then? Have things changed much since then? Do you agree with Jane Austen's quote? In Regency Times, the ton chose wives because of money. In some countries and situations, it is still that way. We do have freedom of marriage in our country USA but for some women, the parents do the choosing. Life isn't any better. We have Covid, disasters of nature, shootings and some people marry for money. In Jane's time, a man with fortune, could choose a wife because of money and the ton. I think we are better off then again anymore, I am not sure. Maybe 10 years ago, I would have said we are better off but I honestly don't know. This is food for thought. Love should be the reason people marry. Money is nice but money doesn't buy happiness. I love my husband. We don't have a lot of money but I got everything a woman could want. I think Jane wanted love but she never found her Darcy. Life changes and so does the world but love is alive and well last time I checked. The world. Not a good place at times but we need to pray and have hope. Try to find happiness. |
