School Days
School days
hard chairs
hot afternoons
in stiff air.
The clock hands
watched
refuse to move.
The lessons
taught
no mind improve.
Under desks
legs fidget
across formica
tap digits.
Impatience
bursts
in spite of rules.
A youthful
curse
in every school.
The clock ticks
and all ears
though listening
no lesson hear,
teacher’s words
do not attend
as the school day
nears its end.
(You may as well
just ring the bell)
You do not need to use the phrase, but you may if you like.
Poems should be at least 12 lines long, no max.
