Poet's Cafe - 8/14/23
Gingerly picked up
Placed in a metal box.
The grates hold me carefully in place.
Warmth envelopes me gently
Until I pop up with a start.
Set on a round cold surface
I am smothered in a creamy substance;
Feelings of being smothered
Start to terrify me.
Further torment comes as
I find myself drowning in a hot, dark liquid.
The ultimate indignation comes
When I am slowly bitten into tiny pieces
And swallowed into the depths.
Your assignment: Write a poem from a point of view NOT your own, such as a slice of life piece about a documentary filmmaker, trash collector, hospital volunteer, or news reporter. Use your imagination to get inside that person's head and let his or her voice convey a specific effect to the reader.
