I can't bear to hear the silence
Muscles twitch in protest
at the endless beeping,
echoed in a thumping headache.

An ache slides through my jaw
thanks to gritted teeth,
as my breath keeps pace
with that infernal beeping.


A flood of shocking silence
stuffed into every corner
of a room devoid of personality.
Suffocating.
Overwhelming.
And I'd give anything
         to hear that blessed beeping.
