The guy is making my MC remember good times she doesn't want to remember, but she also knows she messed him up and the good times were only fleeting. She's not happy about him re-appearing, but after not thinking about him for years, now he's on her mind too much, and she is not happy.

The complications are more emotional, but they are there, and depend upon a shared past, but it's hard to tell what the characters are going to do next.

However, writing this romance thing is a nice diversion from the spec fic (fantasy, scifi, horror) I usually churn out with monotonous regularity.

But, having said that, I've had 2 weird reviews on Amazon where readers complain about the romance through-line in Invasive Species, and they both gave it 3/5 stars. Can't win, I guess.
