Poem Took a Wrong Turn, but Discovered a Poetry Form I Like
This was supposed to be a poem for the 2023-2024 round of "Promptly Poetry Challenge (2024-2025)Open in new Window.. But somehow things got WAY off target from the prompt...then apparently changed again as I think the beginning and end of the poem are going in different directions. I can't submit it for the challenge, but I spent enough time on it before realizing I lost sight of the prompt, I decided to save it anyway. *Laugh*

It was supposed to be about a door and I tried to make it about how time can be different depending on which side of the door you're on (or something like that), then it became about time taunting me as it expands and compresses with the horrible memories in my mind (or something like that) and then it ended with it all being because I wanted the wrong person? I don't know what happened, but nothing good except I discovered a poetry form I kind of like. *Blush* *FacePalm* *Laugh*

I like the idea of writing a poem with the cadence, syllable count, and challenge of the word structure I have in the 1st and 3rd stanzas, particularly the 3rd one as the 2nd line in the 1st stanza kind of messes the form up. I may explore something like this more. I wonder if this (or something similar) is already a poetry form. *Thinker*

The rhyme is AAAA BBBB CCCC, though I would possibly also accept AAA BBB CCC or maybe even AA BB CC if this is something I've made up, myself. *Bigsmile*

There are 5 words in each line and the syllable count for the line should be 7, but for each word in the line, the syllable count should be 2, 2, 1, 2.

The meter for a line should be long, short/ long, short/ long/ short, long. If anyone can correct my explanation of the form I'm trying to do here, please feel free. Also, if there is already a form similar, please let me know about that, too. *Smile* I'm sure there are forms a bit similar, but do they include the number of words? lol

Swirling, twirling all around
topsy turvy, without sound,
seconds ticking do confound,
physics rules are unbound.

Stretching, sprinting, as it wants,
time is smiling as it flaunts
power over my mind's haunts
timely, ghastly, still it taunts.

Captive, begging and afraid,
timepiece, clockwork, all betrayed
silly, little heart obeyed,
chasing after one forbade.
