Howdy Everybody! Last night was a late night binge-watching YouTube videos on homesteading. This time of year some homesteaders do what is called a Pantry Challenge. Basically for one to two months, they only use what they have preserved or have on hand for cooking. I think they have a very small budget for things that they don't preserve, such as milk, or whatnot. I have decided to try out this challenge, although most of my things are store bought. But there is a lot of miscellaneous stuff hiding out in my cabinets... So I printed out some freezer/pantry/fridge inventory lists, planning out a few meals and trying very hard not to waste anything. Right now, I have a ham bone in the crockpot with dried pinto beans, carrots and onions. The rest of the ham will go into ham salad and egg rolls. I've also got a shepherd's pie ready to go. In a bit will try out a 30 min bread dough recipe for a loaf of bread and/or rolls. I also have a dish of lemon bars made up. First time trying them, so will see how that goes. The two channels that I watch are Acre Homestead (Becky) and Three Rivers Homestead Of course, I've had some coffee! |
