May my opinions gather wind under their wings and fly, perchance to soar.

An answer to Stik regarding reading media.
An answer to "What It Means to Lean, Part 3Open in new Window.

Read long pieces: I agree; however, I'm a slow reader and long is problematic when I'm trying to garner bits and pieces of everything.
Determine what to focus on: Good advice for others. I look at patterns and being unfocused works for me.
Seek out the articles: Again, great idea. Videos tend to be biased or second-third-hand. I don't make the time. Because I'm in slowmo most of the time however long it takes you multiply by two or three.
Ask yourself/others what social factors make you interested/disinterested: Simple, I'm not fond of fluff. I am a marginalized person. Any attack on people like me or my friends is a threat. I am on 'alert' most of the time.
What do I want to achieve: Knowledge and how it fits (or doesn't) with other knowledge as I feel everything is connected. But... truth-be-told... I find most long reads pleasurable when I make the time. Sound bites are a plague. Headlines can be scandalous.
What discourages? Get to the point? Use common language. I don't have time to get a PhD. Connect with an audience outside of a personal bubble. Be concise. Many just go on-and-on.
Practice talking about specific news complaints: To whom? Myself? WDC is a shallow lake. There are hidden depths but bouys and signs warn people away. Not much better in real life as folks avoid 'toxic' topics that annoy them. The 'blind' aren't interested in what color the sky is. Blue is the only answer they know. My whiny complaint #1? A point of view that assumes everyone who is 'worthy' is White and Christian and is obsessed with money. Nostalgia about the 1950s is a case in point. It wasn't great for many; but, those voices are drowned by those who never saw the problems or have chosen to forget.
