Look at the Sky

look at the sky,
she said look

at a long dappled tiger,
grey underbelly,
chasm mouth,
pursuing a rabbit
across cerulean fields

to tell you the truth
I should not be lying
on this weekday lawn
deliberately breathing

looking at the sky’s
skein of cirrus hair
penetrated by a silver jet
cheered on
with monochrome pom-poms

this will all change
in a minute
even now the tiger
is indiscriminate
the rabbit has fled

look at the sky she said
& my eyes glad
to be in the distance

there is no escape
from earth of course
except perhaps through sky
