A Bird in the Hand is Not a Cat

“Mommy, can I have a kitty?”

“You already have a pet, Lucy, remember? You asked for a parakeet for your birthday.”

“Tweety is boring. I want a little kitty.”

“Kittens grow into cats, and birds are not safe around cats. Besides, look how much Tweety loves you. See how he perches on your finger and eats from your hand?”

“When I don’t have Tweety anymore, can I have a kitty then?”

“Birds live for a long time, honey.”

“But when Tweety dies, we can get a kitty, right?”

“Maybe, we’ll see.”

“Mommy?”

“Yes?”

“I don’t think Tweety looks very well.”
