things falling Apart

there is a sense
that things
are falling apart
in the United States
extreme rhetoric
leading to potential assassination
as the center does not hold
madness descends upon the Land

Atlas of the Heart by Brene Brown
Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe

BUMPER STICKER SLOGANS

Bad Hair Day

in the end
it came down to this
Trump was having
a bad hair day
when the assassin
tried to shoot him
hitting and damaging
his famous hair

ANOTHER BAD HAIR DAY
MY SPIRIT ANIMAL IS A FIRE ANT

I MAY BE OLD, BUT I’VE SEEN ALL THE GREAT BANDS

Someday the Sun Will Explode Sun

We are all alive
in the shadow
of the Sun
Some days the sun
will explode
into a summer nova
killing us all
someday

It’s all Trump’s Fault Trump

I have a bad habit
of hating being late
being impatient
and blaming others
for my mistakes
it is all Trump’s fault
I scream at the TV
which screams back at me.

BAD HABITS
BEING LATE
IMPATIENCE
BLAMING OTHERS

No More Trump Resolution

as much as I want to
I cannot keep
my resolution
to ignore President Trump
who keeps popping up
in my head
like a bad nightmare
can’t stop seeing him

Write an Empty Poem

an old man
thinking of his life
and his late wife
staring at the empty spot
in his heart
waiting for death
to take him home
to his waiting wife

Old Man stares at Death

a man
sits down
at a table
looking out at the street
drinking a cup of whiskey
Filled with despair staring at death
jumping out the window
to his death.

WRITE A POEM ABOUT SOMETHING NARROW

President BIden
has a narrow route
to victory
which is getting
smaller day by day
soon he will lose
stubborn old man
has to retire

WRITE A POEM ABOUT WHAT TOMORROW KNOWS.

tomorrow will come

sooner than we expect
will it be Trump’s revolution
a Christian fascist paradise
a nightmare world
for the rest of us?
the future knows
I do not

Black Widow Spiders

a black widow
is a woman
whose husband has died
named after the black widow
who kills her male partner
after sex
the female is more deadly
a metaphor for life
