Establishing Shots
Establishing Shots

At first, I wasn’t sure if I would get five scenes written today and five Establishing Shots. Once I got past those five scenes and the sixth Establishing Shot it got a little bit better. It was the Establishing Shots that I spent the most time writing. I knew what I wanted to write. but I didn’t know how to write it.

If I had had one or two more lines for these Establishing Shots, I wouldn’t have had as big of a problem with them as I did. But I only have three lines for my Establishing Shots. Of course, I will have those five lines in my script. This isn’t the script, though. It’s the Scene Outline. And there are set line counts in my Scene Outlines.

I know I could have made an exception to add a line or two in my Establishing Shots. But I don’t want to do that in my Scene Outlines. My Scene Outlines tell my Part or Episode story from beginning to end. That includes the Establishing Shots. If they will be part of the Movie, Movie Introduction, or Episode, they will be in my Scene Outlines.

Usually, I will only have one or two Establishing Shots that start one of my Acts. It will normally be two with my Science Fiction Parts or Episodes. It could be only one if it’s not a Science Fiction Part or Episode. I won’t know that until I start writing them if I ever do. After all, I specialize in Science Fiction.

Some of my short stories may not be Science Fiction. But my scriptwriting has been so far. And I don’t plan on writing anything but Science Fiction when it comes to Movies, Movie Introductions, and Episodes. Maybe someday I will venture out to do some scriptwriting that isn’t Science Fiction. But I don’t think that will happen anytime soon, if ever.

It's not only the beginning my my Acts that I will have more than one or two Establishing Shots. There may be some beyond the beginning. That’s what happened in the first ten scenes of my Teaser Act for Part One, Younger-Than-Adults, of my Water Wars scriptwriting project. That is unique to me. I usually don’t have that many Establishing Shots.

Why do I have so many Establishing Shots in this Teaser Act? It’s because of what is happening in this Teaser Act. Chaad is destroying a Confinement Location and killing Confinement Protectors. Them closest to him are either protecting other victims there, trying to leave there, wanting to help Chaad, or taking weapons.

That is why there are so many Establishing Shots in this Teaser Act. It may get a little lower in the rest of Part One. Then again, it may not. After all, they will be scattered all around Poulask for the rest of these Acts in Part One. So, there will probably be at least two more Establishing Shots per Act in Part One.

Part Two, Their Next Destinations, will cut back on the number of Establishing Shots too. But it will only be about one or two less until toward the end of this Part. Then it will be a lot like the Episode. Once I get to my Episode Scene Outlines and scripts, I will be back to the two Establishing Shots for every Act mostly.
