To Athena at YCC: "Bottom line: desperate folks try to do what's safest and legal. If they can't, they must find other means. While some folks tsk tsk tsk and do nothing, those who are threatened (for whatever reason) find a means out. Applies to women needing health care, the homeless, various religious and sexual minorities. Xenophobia, homophobia and a general War on the Poor exasperate an already hopeless situation."

To Susan Anderson at YCC: "I don't have the technical knowledge of climatic situations. My field of "expertise" is biology and linguistics. But... I'm old... and have been interested in culture, travel and weather since I was a child. I try to ignore the doomcasters and downcasters and potential disasters 10 days out; but, climate change is real (been happening for millions of years) and the human response is key to many existential tragedies and reflected in political policies and posturings. I'm globalist more than a nativist or nationalist."

War on the powerless... makes bullies feel better.

War on our planet. Bring on the Apocalypse.? Why?

No... it hasn't always been like this. There have always been peaceful cooperative cultures. The competitive warmongers capture the headlines and their heroic and/or evil deeds are legend.
