week 22 Celebrating Thanksgiving After the Fall of Humanity

Week 22 Celebrating Thanksgiving After the Fall of Humanity

Joe Lee
Was in his mountain cabin
Near Mt. Ranier, Washington.

Preparing
To celebrate Thanksgiving
With the motely crew of survivors.

Five years
After the end of civilization
After COVID 2025 killed
95 percent of humanity
Within two months
Leaving only a few survivors.

He had retreated
To his family’s cabin
And had found other survivors,
On what was left of the internet
And ham radio.

Inviting them to join him,
In his mountain hideout,
30 miles west of Yakima
And 100 miles east of Seattle.

50 people had made the treck
Jake put them to work
As farmers and hunters.

They lived off
what they could grow, fish and hunt
And salvaged goods from Costco
Wearhouse in Yakima.

For dinner they had fresh turkey
Stuffing
Mashed potatoes
A can of cranberry sauce
And a can of bean

And Huckelberry pie
For dessert
But unfortunately, no ice cream

He lit a candle on the pie
With a match
And then offered a toast,

“We are the lucky few
Who have survived the apocalypse.”

They had plenty of wine,
Home brewed Beer,
Kombucha,
Weed and whiskey.

As they ate and drank.
Filled with gratitude
For having survived
The fall of humanity.

Use these words in your poem this week:

bean, can, match, grateful
