Night's Light
Night’s Light
The moon, a thin sliver,
plays peek-a-boo with me
as I stand and stare at
the fast spreading darkness.
Twilight sadness wraps
its arms around the world,
its hold relentless, chokes me
with overwhelming emotion.
Yet, gradually insulated from inner turbulence
detached from the murmurs of my soul's restlessness,
freed finally, there I am, transported to the silent
sparkling starry domain, sense a slow
smile beginning to dawn on my face.
“I thank Thee God,” I tell Him, "for the sublime
Nature, with her endless kindness and unfailing
sustenance, so we love and live to remember
how beautiful the world is
where kindness works wonders,
where people of love rekindle
the luminescent lamp of hope for all
the needy, the desperate and the lonely."
