night adjusted eyes
the city is too light
to see stars, constellations
fading into a sea of windows
and stoplights and car lights
front and back, a cacophony
of light blinking into migraine
while the stars shine,
far away and long ago—ancient
watchers, waiting for us
to turn off the floodlights
and stare, again, in wonder
at the sky
