A comment I made at YCC re plastics (and burning tires to cook food in Ghana).

"People need to eat and many foods need to be cooked first. Similar problem in Haiti. Blah-blah-blah. Translate this into street language that poor people can understand! Also, research? Why not action? What alternatives already exist? Like... hydro-electric, wind or solar. Look to Rwanda to reduce or eliminate waste by not promoting it in the first place. We know most of the problem, know various solutions but have no clue as to what to do? Unless folks get out of their theoretical heads and understand Humans 101 and Poverty 101 this insanity continues unabated. Sorry about being preachy but I'm fed up with fear-mongering without understanding people and without any action."
