My journal of Abba's and The Beatles music, short stories and poems for a contest. |
Raina and Jerome were in their thirties. They had, had failed marriages and had been a couple for six years. They lived in New York and were artists. Painters. They had met in art class and they had sold paintings. They made a good living at it and lived in Greenwich Village. They were in love and happy. Raina was like a modern day hippie, long blonde hair and wore headbands and she fit the hippie scenario. Jerome was blonde and handsome. He looked like a viking but was born in the south. He had went to ballets with her and they went to Rock Concerts and loved music. They loved culture. Raina refused to do one thing. She said what he wanted to do wasn't for them. She wished he would quit asking. She thought he liked their life of going to Rock Concerts, going to Art Shows and being artists. They loved their Corgis and each other. Why did he want to do that unspeakable thing and keep talking about please, please me. "Please, Raina. We do everything you want. Just please please me." "Now, you are quoting The Beatles." Raina rolled her eyes. "Please. Just this one time. I get tired of going to poetry readings. We go to concerts and art shows. We need to do something I want to do for once. I am a country boy from Tennessee. This could be fun. Just one time. I promise I will never ask again. " " Just this once. Let's get this over with." Raina knew she would regret this. Raina and Jerome dressed like country bumpkins and laughed at each other. They kissed and drove to a place that looked like a big, red barn. It was ten miles out of Greenwich. Raina and Jerome walked inside the red barn. Men dressed like cowboys and women wearing short, flouncy skirts and peasant blouses. A man dressed like a cowboy stepped up the mike. "Ladies and Gentlemen. Welcome to square dancing." "It looks like Heehaw threw up in here." Raina felt like a fish out of water. Raina and Jerome promenaded and Raina faked it and watched other couples. They did all the steps and Raina liked it after all. It pleased Jerome. Her heart needed him. He had kept saying come on. Come on. Raina laughed to herself. Raina and Jerome. They loved all kind of music and now they loved Keith Urban, George Strait, Reba McIntire and The Beatles. They loved each other and please, please me was a way of life for them. ![]() |
