In the New Testament scripture is very clear on when Jesus is telling parables and not. Genesis is clear that Adam and Eve were literal people, backed by science of descent, but not modern thought. We see the creation of life on earth and in we see that the Church can be apostate. We also see plainly the evils of perversion and the Lordship, deity, and resurrection of Christ. Men can argue original text, but I find it fascinating that we, those who are indwelt by the Holy Spirit do not realize how much our world view and theology affect our knowledge of scriptures rather than the other way around. This is why I often joke that seminary ruins pastors. The learning, at least at many, is usually quite solid but the theology is built on tradition and tradition can keep us solid and or make us blind to the truth. 2 Timothy 3: 15-16 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, |
