The Phantom Tollbooth (opinion piece)
Prompts day 15: Story Opinion piece about your favourite book, short story or author.

My favorite book since childhood is The Phantom Tollbooth, by Norton Juster. Published in 1961, it's about a young boy, Milo, who trudges wearily through life, too jaded to appreciate surrounding wonders, until one day he arrives in a new and exciting world.

He goes on a classic hero's journey: thinking, learning, making friends. He returns home with a new attitude. Life is no longer dreary and boring.

I identify with Milo's disenchanted outlook, remember the intriguing concepts humorously presented, and love the endearing characters. I read it whenever I feel “bored,” usually inspired to begin a creative project afterwards.

Words: 100.
